OCR: Crotalus lepidus seen in the Chihua- huan desert, and the American sidewinder of the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. The name sidewinder is given to several species of viper that move by using a sidewards shifting of the head and body to glide across the sand. The American sidewinder is a rattlesnake (Crotalus cerastes), and the African version found in the Namib desert is Peringuey's viper (Bitis peringuey)).
